My research focuses on social informatics of knowledge, the interdisciplinary study of the interplay among emerging information technologies (IT), people, and culture in knowledge practices. Understanding their interrelationships is fundamental to managing the design, uses, and consequences of IT in knowledge-intensive endeavours. Phenomena I have studied include mutual shaping of knowledge work and artificial intelligence, lifelong learning in the digital age, and smart technologies for sustainable and resilient urbanisation. I have received more than SG$1,300,000 in research funding from government agencies as well as industry partners. I also serve on the editorial review board of top information science journals such as International Journal of Information Management and programme committee of conferences such as International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS).
