SEETOH, Ian

Dr. Seetoh received his PhD degree in 2014 from the National University of Singapore under the Singapore-MIT Alliance program (Advanced Materials for Micro- and Nano- Systems), where he investigated growth and optical properties of group-III nitride materials and how they interact with nanostructures. He also obtained a M.Eng in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2010 and a B.Eng in Chemical Engineering (1st Class) from the National University of Singapore in 2009. Dr. Seetoh is currently researching on the mechanical properties of cellular materials (i.e. foams, micro-lattices, colloids) and how they can be optimized for various applications. Previously, he was a product engineer with GLOBALFOUNDRIES from 2014 to 2018, engaged in MEMS prototype development and manufacturing.

SUN, Li

Dr. Sun received her PhD degree from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2020. Her doctoral research focuses on the design and optimization of metal additive manufacturing processes using finite element and experimental methods. After receiving her PhD, she completed a postdoctoral project at NTNU on the application of machine learning for the prediction of the thermal history in additive manufacturing. She obtained her M.Eng in Mechanical and Transportation Engineering from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and B.Eng in Mechanics and Engineering Science from Zhengzhou University. She joined AMDS lab in 2022 and is currently working on the design and simulation of HP's additive manufacturing process.

GUO, Yuanyuan

Dr. Guo received her PhD degree in Material Science and Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2019. Her doctoral research focused on the new electrode materials development for lithium-ion batteries and lithium-oxygen battery design without catalysts. After graduation, she worked on a project as a research fellow for the preparation of medium entropy alloy and high entropy alloy using atomic layer deposition and rapid Joule heating techniques in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU. She joined AMDS lab in 2022 and is working on the fabrication and optimization the properties of architected Zn-ion structural battery. Previously, she received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Chemistry from Henan University, China, and Soochow University, China, respectively.

RAMESH, Akhil

Dr. Akhil K. Ramesh received a Joint PhD degree from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) Taiwan under the IITD-NYCU Joint Doctoral Degree Program. He was also conferred a Master’s Degree in VLSI and Embedded System from Cochin University of Science and Technology and has clean room experience from world class laboratories such as Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI). His main research focus is on nanoelectronics and nanofabrication. During his PhD studies, he was involved in the fabrication and development of spintronics based memories and sensing devices. He is also skilled in micromagnetics and atomistic spin simulation of spintronic memories (STT-MRAM, SOT MRAM, VCMA). Currently, Dr. Akhil is researching on the development of spintronic devices on flexible substrates.

Singh, Manish

Dr. Singh received his Ph.D. degree in 2022 from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in solid mechanics. His work includes numerical investigations of thin plates and shallow shells with point defects and metric anomalies (thermal loading, growth, etc.). Dr. Singh has solved coupled nonlinear partial differential equations using the finite element method. He obtained his M.tech. in 2015 from MNNIT Prayagraj, where he worked on experimental calculations of the fracture strength in cleavage of epoxy/alumina nanocomposite adhesives in bonded metal joints. Dr. Singh received his B.Tech in 2013 from IET Lucknow in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently working on the generative design/ optimization of optical mirrors and the development of lattice structures with extreme modulus.

YUAN, Jiaxiu

Yuan Jiaxiu received her Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in 2022. She joined AMDS Lab in 2022 and is working on developing a novel deployable optical payload. Her previous work was to develop a fully automated surgical instrument inspection and maintenance machine in NTU Robotics Research Center. Before that she has developed a pharmacy auto pick and pack system, a linen pick and place system, a surgical instrument sorting system, and a semi-autonomous assistive machine in RRC since 2017. She received her Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in 2016.

CAI, Chenhui

Cai Chenhui received his Master of Science in Smart Product Design from Nanyang Technological University in 2019. He joined AMDS Lab in 2022, and is currently developing a novel deployable optical payload. Before that he joined NTU Robotics Research Center in 2019 as Research Associate and has developed a fully automated surgical instrument inspection and maintenance machine. His Bachelor was in Automobile Engineering, Ningbo University of Technology.

DENG, Luchen

Deng Luchen received his Master of Science in Computer Control & Automation from Nanyang Technological University in 2023. He obtained his Bachlor Degree in Material Design Science and Engineering from Shanghai University, of which his thesis was on the prediction of oxidation behaviors of high entropy alloys through machine learning. He joined AMDS Lab after graduation of master degree.

FAN, Jie

Fan Jie received her Master of Science in Computer Control and Automation from Nanyang Technological University in 2023. Before she pursed her Master degree, she worked for an IT company as a software engineer, taking part in the development of an automotive pH testing device, an automotive weighing device for soil, and a workstation for PCR tests. She received her Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2021.

Lijian received his B.Eng in Material Science and Engineering from National University of Singapore in 2020, specializing in nanostructured materials and nanotechnology. During his undergrad, he researched core-shell nanostructured electrodes for his dissertation and worked on the pre-and-post processing of DMLM's printed parts during his internship with GE Aviation. Prior to joining AMDS, he worked as a Process Integration Engineer in Micron.

SHEN, Boyi

Boyi earned her B.Eng. in Materials Engineering with a Minor in Spanish at Nanyang Technological University in 2024, supported by the NTU Science and Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship. Her final year project focused on the 3D printing of self-standing zeolite monoliths for CO2 adsorption. After graduation, she joined the AMDS Lab as a PhD student.

Chen, Jincong

Chen Jincong received his Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2019. After graduation, he continued to pursue his PhD degree in Tsinghua University. He joined the AMDS lab in November 2023 as a visiting PhD student. He currently works on 4D printing of polymer composites.

Wang, Yongjun

Wang Yongjun received his Master in Mechanics from Jiangsu University in 2021. After graduation, he pursued his PhD degree in Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dr. Lai received his B. Eng in Mechanical Engineering (NUS) in 2009, and was awarded the LKY, IES and PEB gold medals for graduating top of his class. He then accepted the Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA) Fellowship and earned the M.Eng in Materials Science and Engineering (MIT) in 2010 for his study on the technical and financial feasibility of incorporating biomimetic shock absorbent designs into motorcycle helmets. He received his Ph.D. in Advanced Materials for Micro- and Nano- Systems (NUS-SMA) under the same SMA Fellowship in 2014. His doctoral dissertation, which examined the interaction dynamics between liquid droplets and nanostructures, was jointly supervised by Prof. Wee Kiong Choi (NUS) and Prof. Carl V. Thompson (MIT)

Following this, Dr. Lai completed a year of postdoctoral studies in the Biomedical Engineering department in NUS under Asst. Prof. Choon Hwai Yap, researching on the fluid dynamics of fetal heart chambers, as well as the interfacial mechanics between red blood cells and superhydrophobic surfaces. In 2015, he received the SMART Postdoctoral Fellowship to investigate the effects that nanostructures have on bacterial behaviour under Prof. Patrick Doyle (MIT). In 2015/2016, Dr. Lai was awarded the Temasek Research Fellowship to conduct independent research as a Principal Investigator in the field of Protective Mechanical Metamaterials. For this project, he was mentored by Prof. Chiara Daraio (Caltech) in ETH Zurich and Caltech. Dr. Lai returned to NTU in Nov 2017 to set up the AMDS Lab and continued this work with his group.

He joined the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in Nanyang Technological University as an Assistant Professor in Mar 2021 and received the Nanyang Assistant Professorship award in 2022. His latest research is focused on the advanced design and manufacturing of sustainable structural materials.

The work is expected to encompass elements of nanotechnology, additive manufacturing, simulations, machine learning/ artificial intelligence and emerging applications in battery and sustainability technologies.
