Research

Laboratory objectives:

1. To generate knowledge of interactions between materials and biological systems
2. To translate such knowledge into viable and clinically relevant applications

The materials that we study include natural proteins, synthetic polymers and nanomaterials. Applications that are of interest to us include tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and nanobiotechnology.

Our current research focus includes:

• Evaluating the toxicological effects of nanomaterials
• Understanding the mechanisms of interactions between nanomaterials and cells
• Developing functional scaffolds for tissue engineering using human hair keratins
• Skin tissue engineering
