· We just launched a Research Program, NOURISH: Next-Generation
Brain-Computer-Brain Platform – A Holistic Solution for the Restoration
& Enhancement of Brain Functions, funded by AME Programmatic
Fund (Competitive), Singapore,
Oct 2020. (Program Director: Prof Cuntai Guan. Clinical Co-Director: Dr
Karen Chua)
o
Synopsis: Brain-computer interface technology is promising in
creating new digital health solutions for mental health and brain sciences.
In this research program, we will develop the next generation
brain-computer-brain (BCB) technologies as a holistic medtech solution for
the restoration and enhancement of motor, cognitive and emotional functions
in one system. We will also investigate the mechanism and
biomarkers of brain function recovery.

We launched a Joint PhD Program between Nanyang Technical
University (NTU) Singapore and Graz
University of Technology (TUG), Austria, in the field of Brain-Computer
Interfaces, Sept 2020.
o The topics
will be centred around Brain-Computer Interfaces for clinical applications
in either spinal cord injury or stroke. Following research topics are
possible: deep learning in BCI, transfer from healthy to patients, motor
decoding, novel BCI paradigms, interpretability in BCI, etc.
o The PhD
will be jointly conferred by both Universities with the
certificate bearing two seals from NTU and TUG. The students
will be co-supervised by Prof. Gernot Müller-Putz (TUG) and Prof Cuntai
Guan (NTU).

We published an fMRI
study on children with ADHD in Aug 2018. It shows that BCI based intervention can help re-normalize
brain functional network topology among cognitive networks, which is
associated with behavioral improvement and facilitate brain maturation in
ADHD children. The fMRI analysis was led by Prof Helen Juan Zhou from NUS.
